How To Care For Your Fabric
We’ve put together a few guidelines to help you care for your new fabric. It’s a good idea to pre-wash any natural fibers (cotton, silk, linen) that you will be washing in the future, as some shrinkage may occur. We recommend pre-washing in the same way you intend to wash your future fabric creation including drying. Wash light and bright colors separately, as some colors may run in their first few washes.
Please note that these care tips are guidelines only and will not apply to all fabrics. Special washing instructions will apply to some fabrics such as satins, sequined, beaded, coated or foiled fabrics as well as delicate items. If you have any questions, please contact us here.
Cotton
Machine washable warm or cold and bleachable if white. Wash colors separately, tumble dry on cool setting or dry in shade to avoid fading. Do not wring, pull straight from machine to prevent wrinkles, or iron while damp on cotton setting. Drycleanable. Prewash cotton fabrics before cutting.
Linen/Hemp
Dry-cleaning is recommended, but you can cool hand wash or gentle machine wash. If you prefer to hand-wash, test a swatch first to ensure you’re satisfied with the softer hand that will result. Wash colors separately, do not twist/wring. Tumble dry on cool setting or dry in shade to avoid fading. Use a warm/hot iron on linen setting.
Silk
Dry-cleaning is recommended for all silks. Only hand-wash at your own risk using a silk friendly detergent. If hand washing, wash colors separately, do not wring, drip dry in shade. Do not bleach or tumble dry. Use a warm iron on silk setting.
Nylon / Polyester
Machine wash warm or cold, do not bleach. Wash colors separately, do not twist/wring. Tumble dry on low temperature. If ironing is needed, iron on a low temperature.
Wool
Dry-cleaning is recommended, though some wools can take hand washing. Always test a swatch first if you are going to care for your wool fabrics at home rather than using a drycleaner. Use steam when pressing.
Rayon/Viscose
Cool machine wash or hand wash, dry cleaning is usually preferable. Wash colours separately, do not twist/wring. Line dry. Test a swatch first. Use a warm iron on reverse side.
Acetate/Triacetate
Machine wash or hand wash in warm water. Wash colors separately, do not twist/wring. Line dry. Use a warm iron on reverse side. Dry cleanable.
